Working with UK based businesses to ensure their success in international markets through exports.
A rare opportunity is emerging for local makers, crafters and creative businesses to become part of the next chapter of Ellesmere Yard, a unique heritage site on the Llangollen Canal.
Through the Heritage Fund supported Forging Ahead project, Ellesmere Yard is being carefully restored and reimagined as a vibrant centre for craftsmanship, enterprise and community. While only a limited number of workshops are currently available, additional spaces will be created as historic buildings are restored, with completion expected by 2029.
We are now inviting expressions of interest from makers who would like to help shape the future of the site and be part of its growing creative community.
Why get involved?
Established in 1805, Ellesmere Yard is one of the last operational canal yards in the country, with over 200 years of history rooted in Britain’s waterways. The Forging Ahead project will conserve and repurpose historic buildings, expand visitor experiences, offer training and volunteering opportunities, and celebrate traditional skills and craftsmanship.
We already have a blacksmith, joiner and stained-glass artist on site, forming the foundation of a growing creative community.
