Could your business help shape the future of apprenticeships in the Marches?

Published: May 27th, 2026

Local businesses across Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin are being invited to get involved in an exciting programme designed to inspire the next generation of apprentices.

The Insight into Apprenticeships programme, delivered by EDT (the Engineering Development Trust) in partnership with the Marches Careers Hub and NMITE, is returning this summer — and organisers are looking for local employers to play their part.

Two five-day programmes are planned:

Hereford – 29 June to 3 July 2026, based at NMITE

Shropshire/Telford – 13–17 July 2026 (venue to be confirmed)

Open to Year 10 and Year 11 students, the programme gives young people a real taste of the world of work, helping them develop careers skills, explore STEM subjects and make informed decisions about their futures. Participants who complete the programme earn an Industrial Cadets Silver Award.

The good news for businesses is that involvement can be as little as 15 minutes of your time. Ways to get involved include:

  • Hosting a company insight visit
  • Delivering an industry challenge
  • Providing current or former apprentices for a Q&A panel
  • Speaking at the launch or celebration event
  • Running mock interviews

This is a fantastic opportunity to raise your profile with young local talent and help build the skilled workforce the Marches needs for the future.
