The latest major business funding summit in Shropshire has again been hailed a success – with more than 90 investors, lenders and businesses in attendance.
The Summer Funding Summit held at Shrewsbury Town’s Croud Meadow, is an annual event designed to bring together a full range of finance experts for businesses to make connections with.
Businesses ranging from start-ups to larger operations attended the summit – which is co-organised by Shropshire Growth Hub and Invest Telford, in partnership with the British Business Bank and Shropshire Chamber of Commerce.
The summit included expert led sessions on funding routes and investment, presentations from lenders, and a fireside chat with entrepreneur Mo Chaudry on his business journey and why he set up his company, MOmentum Capital.
Shropshire Growth Hub manager Ruth Westwood hailed the success of the latest event – and the range of different businesses in attendance.
She said: “Events like this one are vitally important because funding can really unlock progress for businesses.
“However, it can also be a challenging area for many, and the summit is designed to change the perception of that.
“It is about demystifying funding and hearing from those behind the programmes.
“It was great to have so many businesses with us learning about how they can unlock funding for the first time, plan the next stage of their growth and see what is available to them.”
Mo, who set up his business MOmentum Capital to help entrepreneurs launch or grow their businesses, discussed the topic of accessing funding and how it is the key to any business starting out.
He said: “When you start up a business it can be lonely and no one wants to come and comfort you.
“What you need is support, mentoring and to know where you can access finance, and that is what events like this are crucial for.
“To help businesses navigate their way around what could be quite a difficult issue to face.”
