Businesses are being offered help to cut their energy bills and reduce their emissions through a new £15million programme being piloted across the West Midlands.
The Business Energy Advice Service – which covers Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin – is offering tailored support for approximately 1,300 small and medium-sized enterprises.
Businesses taking part receive expert guidance to identify energy efficiency improvements and can access match-funded grants to implement changes – from upgrading equipment to retrofitting premises.
The initiative builds on the success of programmes such as the Marches Energy Grant to help businesses uncover pathways to reduce energy demand and boost their environmental responsibility.
Benefits of the programme include:
- Free energy and resource efficiency audits to help identify energy savings.
- Continued free membership to the Green Business Network.
- Access to other specialist support to enable growth and innovation.
- Free events, workshops, webinars, podcasts and 1:1 support.
The energy audit provides recommendations for reducing energy costs and saving carbon in your business.
Examples include measures such as upgrading to energy-efficient lighting or optimising heating systems.
Following the assessment, businesses can apply for grant funding up to £100,000 for eligible energy efficiency projects across all sectors, and up to £50,000 for renewable technology like solar.
Grants are awarded on a competitive and match-funded basis, meaning the business will need to provide at least 50% of the total cost of the project.
The programme is funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
