Businesses across the region are being urged to register for a pilot scheme which can provide them with grants of up to £100,000 to help cut their energy bills and drive growth.
The Business Energy Advice Service (BEAS) offers free energy assessments to qualifying businesses and 50% match-funded grants of up to £100,000.
In Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin the full BEAS programme is available, while businesses in Herefordshire have access to the free energy assessment.
A spokesperson said: “BEAS can help businesses fund energy improvements such as solar panels, improved refrigeration, building insulation, energy-efficient lighting, heating and ventilation.
“There is no payback required on the grants, and BEAS is part of a broader government initiative aimed at reducing carbon emissions nationwide.”
To qualify for the BEAS programme, businesses must have an annual energy consumption of at least 25,000kWh and:
- Must classify as an SME
- Be a commercial entity/profit-seeking enterprise
- Have operated from a commercial address for at least 12 months
- Be responsible for paying the business’s energy bills
If you are unsure of your business’s energy consumption, the BEAS website includes a special calculator to help provide an estimate.
Following the energy assessment, businesses are sent a report containing a series of recommended actions to help lower their energy use and bills. They may then have the opportunity to apply for a grant.

“The recommendations the assessment provided were not only practical but should also lead to a noticeable reduction in our energy costs.”
